Themed Home Birthday Party Ideas

Choosing something to do for your little one’s birthday can be tricky. Many parents still opt for some kind of activity outside of their own home as it means they can enjoy the party with their birthday boy or girl, stress free. Since the recession however, families have been feeling the pinch more than ever, and finding ways to do things for less has become a top priority. This has led to more and more children having traditional birthday parties again. No bad thing, as jelly and ice-cream, pass the parcel and musical statues are party classics for a reason. Don’t dismiss a good old-fashioned party with some of your child’s friends; find a way to make it special instead.

One way to give your son or daughter an extra special birthday party is to give it a theme. You don’t need to spend a fortune as most props can be made at home, and you can adapt normal birthday favourites to fit. Shape sandwiches into characters, print pictures to decorate the house and go crazy with costumes. You don’t need to buy expensive fancy dress or stay up all night making it either, as you can get great value girls and boys fancy dress from George at ASDA. Here are some ideas for party themes to get you started.

Superheroes
Whether they prefer Marvel or DC, most boys will have a favourite superhero. There has been a big influx of superhero films in recent years and it’s hard to escape the merchandising associated with this. You could make sarnies in the shape of Superman’s badge, do your living room up like the bat cave with dark sheets, or even have a red and blue theme for Spiderman fans. You can get some great superhero outfits at George at Asda for ages 1 to 8.

Fairies
Fairies are one of the most prolific of all the mythical creatures. There is the tooth fairy, the fairies at the bottom of the garden, the sugarplum fairy, the fairy godmother, and many, many more. Kids love the idea of these little imps that spread magic and happiness wherever they go. Give them a pair of wings, either homemade or bought, and paired with any outfit they are immediately a fairy. Deck the house out with some printed paper leaves and branches to make a woodland hollow, and you have the setting for your very own fairy party.

Safari
If you are looking for a theme that suits boys and girls equally, then a safari or jungle party can work really well. This theme also gives you a lot of scope for decoration and costume ideas, as it is so broad. If you know anyone who is great at face painting, this is a great time to call in a favour. Have them paint all the partygoers faces as their favourite animal as an extra treat. Use your imagination and put different animals in different rooms to make a real life home safari for the little guests.

A birthday party at home is just as good as an activity party. Get creative with the theme and your child will remember their birthday much longer than the same old soft play or bowling party. So get planning!

How to Accessorize with Italian Designer Jewelry

If you love to dress up your wardrobe to make yourself feel glamorous and gorgeous, Italian designer jewelry can add pops of bright color and glittery notes to all of your day and evening looks. These pieces will have all of your friends and family wondering if you just stepped out of a fashion magazine.

From Head to Toe

If your love to accessorize with jewelry that is rare and unique, you will love to own pieces that no one else on your block has. Jewelry can get boring and old if you decide to wear the same old items. Finding a designer that creates and sells interesting and fresh looks can rev up your style and add some pizazz to your outfits. If you have a love for earrings, you will want to choose pairs that highlight the look of your hair and the shape of your face. If you tend to wear your hair pulled back or in a bun, long flowing earrings will make you look sleek and sophisticated. They will be easily noticed and will not be hidden behind your strands of hair. Most necklaces look good with any top or blouse that you choose.

Try to find a design that will compliment your neckline. If you are wearing a plunging top, a necklace that droops or swoops across will look pretty and will fill in the open space. Higher necklaces and chokers look better if you are dressed fancy for a night on the town. Whether the chain is silver or gold, it will look stunning with jewels hanging from the middle section.

Dazzling and Glittery

You can’t go wrong with a linked- or solid-chain watch adorning your wrists. There are various faces that range from a large to a small center. Pick the one that is best for you and that fits your wrist properly. It is always a chic statement to know exactly what the time is. You can finish off your look with a ring or two on your fingers. Try to choose a stone or gem that matches the color of your current outfit. Big bulging rocks are a fun accessory to have beaming from your wedding or middle finger. No matter how you wear it, you will draw attention to your fine pieces of designer jewelry.

A Polished Look

If you love to dress up and wear matching accessories all over your body, Italian designer jewelry will accentuate your hands, ears, and neckline. With numerous marvelous pieces to choose from, your daily routine of dressing up will never be dull.

Padded Bag Organizer by Storage Solutions

Few weeks ago, I had the chance to go to Greenhills Shopping Center once again because I need to buy an external hard drive for my computer. I also took the chance to shop a little bit eventhough I'm on a shopping freeze zone (penny pinching in other words hehe).

As I was going through the various stores in the Tiangge section  I saw this padded bag organizer from one of the stalls there. I'm a bag and organizer freak kinda gal so this instantly caught my eyes. Although I have various make up kits and other kikay stuff organizer already, my heart just wanted to buy this.

I scrutinized the product for a while and I liked it. It's very nice as it was padded and has lots of pockets where I can put all my stuff. Since I change my bag from time to time this organizer made it easier for me to transfer my things from one bag to another.

It is actually available in various colors but got this fuchsia pink instead.

Tips on How to Store Jewelry

Jewelry stores in Lansing, MI, are known not only for their quality collection but also for their organization. They neatly lay their pieces out so that viewers can easily see what’s for sale. When items are not on display, the clerk can easily find what’s needed in the storage. Plus, jewelry stores go through lengthy measures to see that jewels are preserved and kept safe. While your personal jewelry collection may not be so fine or extensive, you should still take a leaf out of these stores’ book. Come up with a system for your jewelry that will keep it organized and out of harm’s way.

Organization

It’s not fun hunting for a tiny earring or trying to untangle chains from necklaces tied together. If you organize your pieces properly, you should avoid these issues. There are several ways to accomplish organization. For earrings, you can stick them and secure them on long ribbons that you hang up on your walls. This is a very affordable and practical solution. Another way to sort your jewelry is to invest in a plastic box or bin with small compartments. Put each item or pair in a compartment to easily access your jewelry. Alternatively, some owners like to use a little crystal bowl where they can put away their earrings or wedding ring before they go to sleep at night. Soft fabric pouches are another great choice for keeping jewels grouped together.

Safety

Maybe you’re interested in seeing that your jewelry is in a safe, secure location. If this is your concern, you can invest in a safe or store your jewels in a safe deposit box at a bank. Many jewelry stores in Lansing, MI, go this route. Using this service may cost you a fee, so you may want to store other items such as important documents so you’ll feel better about paying that amount. You don’t have to pay a lot of money to keep your precious jewelry safe. Consider investing in a jewelry box. These are typically very beautiful, and you can find secondhand or antique pieces at modest prices. Be sure you find one that has a lock and key to prevent theft. The box should be tarnish-resistant and should be kept away from extreme temperatures so the jewelry is preserved.

Nars Flamenco Lipstick

I was in a lipstick shopping spree about couple of months ago and bought some MAC lipsticks and this time I wanted to try NARS cosmetics for a change. Went at Rustan's Dept. Store, Shangrila EDSA with my niece and looked around the cosmetics section then found this.

The gay sales agent was accommodating and let me look for the shade that I wanted. He even tried some for me until I finally decided to get this NARS Flamenco red lipstick, which is a deep red. It'll onlly need few swipes on my lips to get the desired shade that I want and I finish it off with a lipgloss. I end up buying this lipstick and a eyeshadow that I will blog soon.

Summer Must-Haves

For most of us, we always look forward for summer to come for there are many great outdoor activities that we can do. Apart from having some time for a vacation it’s the season to show some skin and your curves whether at the beach, resort or just doing some quick errands.

This is the time for you to bring out all your summer clothes and keep your bulky winter clothes in the closet. If you’re a beach person these are summer must-haves that you need to have.

Swimsuits
Going for a swim or dip in a pool is not complete if you are not wearing your swimsuit. I know it’s a great deal for some women to show their curves but there are great swimwear that will perfectly suit your body type and hide those flaws. Just in case you are bold and on the adventurous side wear something skimpy and brightly colored bikinis for it will always attract attention and make you stand out.

Sunscreen
Basking in the sun for too long is not advisable for we can develop skin cancer, therefore it’s a must to put sunscreen 30 mins. before you expose your skin under the sun. Re-apply from time-to-time as much as possible. There are also many sunscreens now that have high SPF that can well protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun.

Summer Dresses
Various summer dresses will complete your summer outfit: from romper, tube dress to maxi dresses. Summer is synonymous to florals and bright colors but dainty pastel shades are also perfect for summer. Here are just some of my cute finds of summer outfits online.

Sandals / Flip flops
They are definitely must-haves during summer for they are comfortable to wear. Choose among various colors, patterns and designs that can also match your outfit.

Hats / Sunglasses
These are perfect accessories wherever you go. You’ll never go wrong wearing sunglasses anytime for they not only will protect your eyes but they are fashionable as well.

Shorts / Tank Tops
Be comfortable during summer, wear shorts pair it with cute tank tops and you are good to go.

Dealing with Creeping Junk Syndrome

We have all done it; spending ages trying to find something we know we own only to have to give up because we have so much junk we simply can’t find what we are looking for. These days most people live in a home surrounded by things they rarely, or never, use.

You start a new hobby and lose interest after a few months. At that point, you should throw away or sell the paraphernalia associated with that hobby or pastime, but who does that? After all, that candle making kit or electric keyboard might come in handy. With thiskind of thinking, we put it all in a bag or box and put it in the back of the cupboard. Before you know it, your ‘must have’ cupboard is overflowing andthere is no room for the roller blades that you paid £50 for, and used once. Only at that point do you realise that your stuff has taken over, and that your home has a bad case of creeping junk.

How to De-clutter
When that happens it is time to de-clutter, not just throw the roller blades into the back of your other half’s wardrobe. If you do that within a few months, you will not be able to close the door properly on that cupboard either.

The best thing to do is to have a regular clear out. I de-clutter one cupboard at a time and aim to deal with one per month, usually on the first Saturday of the month. It sounds odd to schedule a clear out, but if I do not do that I just keep on putting it off.

When I go through the cupboard, I end up with several piles. The first pile is things I use that belong elsewhere and items to go back in the cupboard I am cleaning out.

If I have not used something for a while, I will do one of two things. Those items I know I definitely do not want go in a pile to be disposed of, and those things I am not sure about go into a separate bin bag. That ‘not sure’ bag goes in the garage, where it stays for two months. Anything that is still in the bag after the two months gets disposed of.

How to Dispose of Unwanted Items
I used to skip everything, but these days I sell most of the items I do not want and give away anything I do  not succeed in selling. It is really easy to sell things online for free, and listing most items can be done whilst watching the TV or during your lunch break. I like to do it all in one go and do it at home with the stuff close to hand, but my husband mostly looks for a buyer, or lists his stuff for sale using smart phone apps during his daily commute.

The two main ways to sell your stuff online without paying and commission or listing fees are classified sites and selling to traders. You can sell most things using these two methods. If you have never tried it consider giving it a go, you will be surprised how easy it is to generate extra cash this way.
